The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III (HEERF III), authorized by the American Rescue Plan (ARP), was signed into law on March 11, 2021, providing $39.6 billion in support to institutions of higher education to serve students and ensure learning continues during the COVID-19 pandemic. ARP funds are in addition to funds authorized by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA) and the Coronavirus Aid, Recovery, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Emergency funds available to institutions and their students under all emergency funds total $76.2 billion. Northern Vermont University has received $6,095,196 of which $3,156,190 is allocated to help students with expenses incurred as a result of disruptions caused by COVID-19.
The first disbursement will be made to students in mid-October.
More detailed information regarding distribution of these funds are detailed below and will continue to roll out over the 2021-2022 academic year.

On October 13, 2021, Northern Vermont University began awarding HEERF III grants to matriculated students enrolled in the Fall 2021 semester taking a minimum of three credits. These funds were sent directly to student’s direct deposit account or by check to the home mailing address on record. The majority of these funds were awarded to the neediest students as evidenced by the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from their FAFSA. These awards total $2,113,750 of the $3,156,190 that NVU was given to award to students, leaving $1,042,440 for students in the Spring 2022 semester.
As of December 31, $2,113,750 has been awarded to 1510 students.

Northern Vermont University began awarding the remaining HEERF III grants to matriculated students enrolled in the Spring 2022 semester taking a minimum of three credits on April . These funds were sent directly to student’s direct deposit account or by check to the home mailing address on record and were awarded as block grants—no application was required. The majority of these funds were awarded to the neediest students as evidenced by the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from their FAFSA. Spring amounts awarded were about half of what the student received in the fall.
As of June 30, 2022, $3,156,190.00 has been awarded to 1768 students.
