SUMMARY:Stories from the VT Queer Archives
DESCRIPTION:The VTSU Castleton Soundings Program in partnership with the Vermont Humanities Speakers Bureau presents Stories from the VT Queer Archives on Thursday\, October 24th at 12:30 PM in the Jeffords Auditorium. Meg Tamulonis discusses how the VT Queer Archive’s collection marks various milestones\, from Pride events to legal rulings\, and considers why some parts of the queer community aren’t well-represented in the Archives. She’ll explain why there aren’t many artifacts from the era before the Stonewall Uprising in 1969\, and some of the ways we can continue to gather and learn about Vermont’s many queer histories. Soundings students are required to sign up in advance to guarantee a seat. This event is free and open to the public. SUMMARY:Anxious Nation Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Thanks to a generous donation from the Poultney Rotary Club\, we are excited to host a showing of the award-winning film Anxious Nation. \n\n\n\nAnxious Nation explores and captures the many faces and facets of anxiety. This feature-length documentary looks deeply into the anxiety and the mental health crisis in America\, especially its impact on young people (ages 10-26) and families. The film looks at the various ways anxiety shows up\, the nurture/nature debate\, situations in homes and society that are significantly adding to the problem\, the mental health crisis on college campuses\, and the impact of anxiety in lower socioeconomic communities\, especially the Brown and Black communities. We discuss stigma\, loneliness\, isolation\, disconnection\, the alarming rise in suicide\, the dangers of social media\, incorrect diagnoses\, and the horrific mental health ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic. \n\n\n\nThe documentary (101 minutes) is offered in a joint effort with the Vermont State University Castleton Wellness Center and Rotary. The Poultney Rotary and Rotary District 7870 have underwritten the five-year movie and public performance rights obtained by the University.
