Christopher Gilmore has been serving as the Athletic Director for the Lyndon campus since March of 2019. Gilmore had served in an interim capacity since September of 2018. In his role, Gilmore oversees NVU-Lyndon’s 15 varsity athletic programs, as well as the SHAPE facility and all intramural and recreation programming.
Gilmore brings substantial administrative experience to Lyndon. Before arriving at Lyndon, Gilmore served as the Director of Athletics at Daniel Webster College in Nashua, NH from 2013 until the college closed in 2017. He was also the Director of Athletics at Green Mountain College in Poultney, VT from 1986 until 2004. While at Green Mountain he served as the Vice President and Treasurer of the Mayflower Conference from 1994 through 2000.
Gilmore has a history of developing athletic departments under his watch. He launched programs in men’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s tennis, and men’s golf while at Green Mountain. At Daniel Webster launched men’s and women’s hockey and wrestling. He also guided Green Mountain’s transition from NAIA to NCAA status. In addition, Gilmore’s programs have displayed a commitment to the academic achievement of their student athletes, and have twice been recognized by USA Today and the NCAA for having the highest student athlete graduation rate above the student body average.
Gilmore has also been a highly accomplished soccer coach over his career. He was the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at the College of St. Rose, a NCAA Division II institution in Albany, NY, from 2008 through 2010. He was also the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Adirondack Community College in 2006. Prior to that, he served as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Green Mountain from 1982 through 2004.
Gilmore has 279 career wins as a head soccer coach. His teams at Green Mountain captured seven Mayflower Conference championships and four NAIA regional championships. They reached the NAIA National Championship Tournament on five occasions and completed three unbeaten regular seasons. Gilmore is a six-time Mayflower Conference Coach of the Year and a four-time NAIA Northeast Regional Coach of the Year. He was named the National Soccer Coaches of America NAIA National Coach of the Year in 1996 and was inducted into the Green Mountain College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013.
