Professors Chris Reilly, PE and Scott Sabol, PE, of the Architectural Engineering Technology program on the Vermont State University (VTSU) Randolph campus, recently attended the 2024 conference of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), held in Raleigh, North Carolina August 7-10, 2024. Both professors are licensed engineers and NSPE members. Prof. Reilly teaches mainly topics in building environmental systems, such as fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and HVAC design. Prof. Sabol is a structural engineer who teaches structural analysis and design topics, as well as an engineering management course and a review course to prepare students for their first national exam on the path to professional licensure.

The Raleigh conference addressed many topics for both their personal professional development and for them to bring back to their classrooms, including the role of artificial intelligence in engineering, diversity in the engineering workforce, and others. It also enabled the professors to interact with employers and practitioners to better understand future needs in the workforce. Tropical Storm Debby passed directly over the conference but did not interrupt it.

In addition to his role as faculty member, Prof. Reilly now begins a one-year stint as president of the Vermont chapter of NSPE.
