Dig into the art, science, craft, and profession of photography with a concentration in Photography as part of your Vermont State University degree in Fine Art. From composition and lighting to technical control and artistic expression, your courses will flow from a comprehensive introduction to advanced knowledge. The curriculum also includes coursework for professional and commercial photography jobs, covering SLR and digital photography and the fundamentals of cinematic production. You will produce portfolios of prints throughout your courses.
The skills you develop through this coursework will apply to a variety of jobs and careers in photography and other creative fields, including fine art photographer, graphic design and web design.

What You’ll Learn
In the photography concentration, you’ll take a deep dive into photography. You will also learn about the diverse career paths you can take as a photographer, from exhibiting your work in galleries to commercial photography and career opportunities in wedding and event photography. You may also choose to develop skills in graphic design to diversify your skill set and increase your hiring potential.
Several local galleries show work by our students and faculty, including the Bank Gallery in Rutland, The Satellite Gallery in Lyndon, and the Christine Price Gallery in Castleton. Galleries at each campus provide opportunities for group and solo exhibitions of student work, including annual Senior Exhibitions.
There are also multiple museums and galleries within easy reach of our campuses, such as the Hood Museum, Williams College Museum, Clark Museum, Mass MOCA, Middlebury College Museum, and Fleming Museum.
