Why Study Musical Theater at Vermont State?
Career-Focused Program: You’ll work individually with faculty to develop a winning professional portfolio, explore incredible internships, define your career goals, and plan the future you want in theater arts.
A Pursuit of Passion: You’ll have the advantage of a multidisciplinary program, so you can choose how to make your impact: acting, directing, dance, music, technical theater, design, or theater studies.
Fall Musical Production: Your contributions to our annual musical show are part of your coursework, so you’ll collaborate on a memorable production while you earn degree credits.
Success After Graduation: Our Musical Theater alumni become leaders and enjoy rewarding careers on and off stage, in summer theater, Broadway and off-Broadway shows, television, film, and educational theater. Some also gain additional skills in graduate school.
What You’ll Learn
Our program provides a comprehensive curriculum in musical theater as you learn diverse skills through music, dance, and theater courses. You’ll have many opportunities to widen your perspective on the performing arts field:
State-of-the-Art Facility: Our John and Susan Casella Theater is a 484-seat theater for our mainstage productions. The facility is loaded with modern technical features, including a fly system, intelligent lights, full concert sound capabilities, audiovisual and streaming capacity, and high-quality recording equipment.
Hands-on Experience: Every semester you’ll polish a range of skills by performing in or producing a show for course credit. As part of the Performance Lab course, you’ll spend time on stage, in the musical pit or an ensemble, dancing, and acting.
We offer many options for valuable interactions and network-building with professionals in the field through travel and internships. Every year, our department spends a week in London or New York City to watch the hottest shows. Our productions on campus each semester provide a way for you to learn and grow by entertaining audiences from Vermont State and the broader community.
