Vermont State University’s Medical Settings Concentration with the Social Work B.S.W. program prepares you to offer support to patients and their families related to healthcare. As a healthcare social worker, you could serve in a variety of ways, such as assisting with a transition from hospital to home care or organizing a support group for family members of patients with a terminal diagnosis.
In this concentration, you’ll complement your knowledge in psychology and sociology gained through the B.S.W. core courses with a choice of courses exploring the dynamics of care and the nature of client needs in different healthcare contexts. The program provides an excellent foundation for further studies or entry-level medical social work positions in hospitals, clinics, government agencies, and other health-related settings.

Trailblazer Scholarship
This renewable, merit-based scholarship awards up to $10,000 for out-of-state students and up to $2,000 for in-state students.
Beginning in the fall 2026 semester, qualified residents of designated Good Neighbor counties can attend Vermont State University at the same tuition rate as Vermont residents.
