Title IX and Protected Rights

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits discrimination based on sex in education programs and activities. Examples of the types of discrimination that are covered under Title IX include but are not limited to: sex-based harassment; sexual violence; pregnancy discrimination; and the failure to provide equal athletic opportunity. Vermont State University (VTSU) is committed to providing a safe learning and work environment free from these actions and behaviors.  Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination based on race, color, or national origin in programs or activities. Examples of the types of discrimination that are covered under Title VI include but are not limited to: racial, ethnic, or ancestral background, skin color, physical features, style of dress that reflects both ethnic and religious traditions, country of origin, limited English proficiency, gender identity, ability, socioeconomic status, and veteran status.
