Why Clinical Mental Health at Vermont State?
- Career Options: Prepare to work in both private and community practice settings.
- Substance Use Emphasis: Our curriculum places a special focus on substance use counseling.
- Advanced Approaches: Learn to integrate mental health, health, and SUD counseling in one practice and explore the value of strengths-based orientations, peer-run services, community inclusion, and other evidence-based practices.
- 700+ Hours of Experience: A supervised internship combined with a practicum, or field experience allows you to complete a full academic year of 700 hours in a mental health counseling setting. The internship provides an opportunity for you to perform all the activities that a regularly employed clinical mental health counselor would be expected to perform in the community.
- Modern Standards: The Clinical Mental Health Concentration is aligned with the American Counseling Association (ACA), as well as the Vermont Mental Health Counselor Association (VTMHCA).
