Courses will be available in various formats depending on each participant’s Plan of Study. Lyndon is the home campus, though courses may be selected on any campus and online, through a mix of synchronous and asynchronous offerings.

Through a tailored plan of study developed in consultation with your academic advisor, you’ll build in-depth knowledge and understanding of your topic of study over time.

Learn along with peers in group interdisciplinary seminars. Gain hands-on skills and experience in field-based learning. Utilize a variety of inquiry methods to investigate real-world topics, problems, and possibilities in real time. Concentration Areas

The M.A. in Liberal Studies is offered in a flexible format to meet the needs and goals of adult learners. Your topic of study (concentration) will fit within one of three broad theme areas: 

  • Integrated Professional Practice 
  • Interdisciplinary Content Area 
  • Contemporary Issue of Interest  

Examples of topics of study include international studies, rural studies, cultural studies, gerontology, equity and social ethics, technical communication, and program assessment and evaluation. Additional examples can be found in the Catalog.

Personalized concentrations can be completed through online coursework. However, if you live near a VTSU campus, you may be able to include some in-person courses in your plan of study if you wish. 

In addition to a personalized concentration, this program also currently offers a concentration in Advanced Teaching and Learning of Mathematics through a partnership between VTSU and the Vermont Mathematics Initiative (VMI); enrollment is open now.
