What You’ll Learn

Vermont State’s program, in partnership with the Vermont Woodworking School, will give you unusual advantages to position yourself well for career success:  

• Diverse Viewpoints: You’ll spend time in the woodshop elbow-to-elbow with professional furniture-makers and woodworkers who teach your courses. They’ll support and encourage you to innovate and explore as you build your portfolio — and your future.  
• Varied art media: Through a range of courses, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of at least one medium, including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, or digital media. 
• A safe studio: You’ll learn the basics of setting up a safe, productive place to work.  

Outside the Classroom, In the Community

Vermont State will be your gateway to the wider world off campus as you develop your artistic vision.  

You’ll build communication skills crucial for your career, so when you graduate, you’ll know how to professionally exhibit and talk about your art in public. 

Special Facilities

The Big, Red Barn  

Our students gain extra inspiration from their “classroom” at the Vermont Woodworking School: The Big, Red Barn. This renovated three-story dairy barn from the 1800s is now a modern woodworking facility. It includes three machine shops, eight lathes, a sanding room, a finishing room, almost 40 benches, a 12-seat computer lab, photo studio, gallery, offices, and a large common area. In this historic building, you’ll share space with Vermont Woodworking School’s immersion students — and faculty woodworking experts.
