School Psychology
Hello everyone! My name is Dr. Airen Wallen, and I’m excited to be teaching here at Vermont State University. I have been an educator for over 24 years. I am currently a Nationally Certified School Psychologist for a large school district in eastern Kentucky. I received my Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Special Education for Learning and Behavior Disorders from Western Kentucky University in 2002 and 2006. I completed my doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction in June 2023 from Liberty University. I also finished my Ed.S. in School Psychology from Marshall University in April 2024.
I started my educational journey as a K12 educator for both elementary and high school special education courses. I then spent thirteen years working as an educational diagnostician and special education consultant for the district. In this position, I worked with teachers developing and implementing appropriate interventions to meet the needs of individual students. I also administered academic assessments for students suspected of or having disabilities. I had the pleasure of leading professional development sessions for both teachers and administrators focusing on special education due process, reading, writing, and math strategies, interventions, and assessments. I currently work as a school psychologist for seven schools in the district. I administer cognitive and academic assessments, provide individual and group counseling, and support teachers within my district for student’s social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs.
I live in a small town in eastern Kentucky. I love animals and currently have two cats that I spoil rotten. I am an avid quilter and make many quilts for friends and family members. I truly enjoy working with undergraduate and graduate students and helping others pursue their dreams for their chosen careers.
