Joy Haqq (they/them) is an occupational therapist and professor in the Health Sciences Department at Vermont State University with over ten years of diverse clinical experience. They hold a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy, a Bachelor’s degree from Bay Path University, and an Associate’s degree from Greenfield Community College.

Their clinical work spans early intervention and pediatrics, geriatric care, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, and hospice and palliative care. In 2020, they founded a private practice centered on community accessibility, ethical care, and alternative systems of exchange, including barter and trade.

In addition to occupational therapy, Joy is a Reiki Master Teacher and advocates for the integrative application of Eastern and Western approaches to wellness. Their work values evidence-based practice alongside lived experience, cultural knowledge, and embodied healing traditions.

Raised in a remote village in the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea, Joy developed a deep appreciation for reciprocity, community interdependence, and the role of nature in well-being—values that continue to shape their clinical and educational approach.

As a non-binary individual and proud member of the queer+ community, Joy is committed to fostering an inclusive, affirming learning environment and supporting the diverse communities of Northern Vermont. They are honored to join Vermont State University and are dedicated to supporting students as emerging professionals in healthcare and community well-being
