Norm Peterson is entering his 6th year as head coach for the women’s soccer team at Vermont State University Johnson. He has the 2nd most wins in program history (28) and is first in ties (15).
Coach Norm has led the Badgers to the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Playoffs for four consecutive years, their first home playoff game in 15 years, and to their two highest winning percentage seasons in the program’s history as an NCAA school (2023 and 2025). In the 2023 season, he guided Johnson to the most wins in program history (10).
In the 2025 season, Johnson finished conference play with only one loss, allowing only 3 goals in 9 games for a school record .33 Goal Against Average. That season culminated with three Johnson players making first team All-Conference
Coach Norm has changed the identity of Vermont State Johnson Women’s Soccer Program. Under his direction, Peterson has turned the Badgers into a premier program in the region. Since the University’s transformation into Vermont State, Coach Norm has led Johnson to a cumulative record of 26-13-10 (.632 winning percentage)
His teams have also excelled in the classroom. The 2024-2025 team had a team GPA of 3.61 across both semesters, with 16 players being awarded All Academic North Atlantic Conference Honors (3.5 GPA or higher)
In Norm’s time at Johnson, he has coached eighteen players to end of season all-Conference teams and 13 weekly conference player-of-the-week awards. In 2023, Johnson had a player in the top 10 in Goals and a different player in the top 10 in assists among all NCAA DIII players.
Norm says, “Whether you are on a soccer team, at work or at home, I believe you should focus on making the place around you better. Great teams are filled with great teammates, so model the behavior you want to see others. Our Coaches constantly trying to raise the standards for ourselves – in our lives and in our play. We expect the same for all the Student Athletes involved in the Women’s Soccer Program at Johnson.”
Norm is graduate of Bryant University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Finance and went to earn a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College.
Norm is the Assistant Director of Career Development for the Johnson and Williston campus. As an advocate for students on and off the field, the athletes on Norm’s team are well-positioned to succeed. He expects dedication that allows these student athletes to be the best versions of themselves.
