The practice of Open Dialogue
Sarah has had the joy of serving as an adjunct instructor at Castleton University for several years within the Social Work department and was happy to continue with Vermont State University. Her most recent roles have been focused on development of systems approaches to urgent and transitional care. As well as integrating resources and therapeutic approaches for students and patients that were uniquely adaptable to their presenting needs. Sarah is very interested in systems change and complex nuances of how we are shaped by our relationships to others.
Sarah is currently the Integrated Behavioral Health Coordinator at Mountain Community Health in Bristol, Vermont as well as the sole proprietor for Trillium Counseling and Consultation LLC. Sarah attended Castleton University and the University of New England for her Masters of Social Work. She continues to maintain her practice in Clinical Social Work for the state of Vermont since 2018 and has experience with clinical individual and group supervision. Her theory of practice is centered in a foundation that individuals are the expert of their own experience and through transparency and flexibility she seeks to meet people and their needs through relational development, curiosity, and open discussion.
An AmeriCorps placement working with at-risk youth at a teen center skatepark brought her to Addison County, and she decided to continue her career here in community mental health. Before continuing in higher Ed, she spent 10 years with the Counseling Service of Addison County where she worked closely with transitioning youth, birthing parents, and their networks, as well as with many populations and individuals who were presenting in extreme crisis.
Sarah has continued to work with advocacy groups related to human rights in the mental health care system as well as continue to learn about therapeutic approaches that are most mindful of the potential negative impacts associated with institutionalized models of care. She is a certified international trainer in the practice of Open Dialogue through the University of Jyväsklä-Jyväsklylän ylipisto and she continues to support the Vermont state initiatives and research towards Collaborative Network Approach.
