Originally from upstate New York, flutist Wendy Matthews has performed in orchestras, chamber music groups, and as a soloist. She has premiered several works by contemporary composers, including Edie Hill and Louis Calabro. She graduated cum laude from the Walnut Hill School of Performing Arts and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Bennington College where she studied flute and composition, received her MM in performance from the University of Akron, and studied in the postgraduate program at the University of Arizona. She has studied with flutists George Pope, Julia Bogorad-Kogan, Bettine Clemen, Philip Kaplan, Nancy Sanderson, and piccoloist Lois Schaefer and taught at the University of Akron School of Music, Western Reserve Academy, and Rymer School of Music. She performs with the quartet, Frevo, and with her classical guitarist husband, Peter, in the Matthews Duo and maintains a private studio in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom.
