VSAC and Vermont State University have teamed up to offer the Freedom & Unity scholarship, an opportunity for Vermont students with a family income of $65,000 or less to attend VTSU tuition free.

The Freedom & Unity scholarship, offered by VTSU and VSAC, is making college possible for Vermonters with family income of $65,000 or less. Choose from flexible, career-focused programs in healthcare, education, tech, and more. Whether you’re changing careers or leveling up, VTSU helps you move forward.
Now students from almost half of Vermont households can earn a two- or four-year
college degree at Vermont State University—tuition-free.
Vermont residents of any age who do not have a bachelor’s degree and are enrolled in eligible undergraduate degree programs are eligible for tuition support at VTSU.
- Full- and part-time students with family income of $65,000 or less.
- New or returning VTSU students are eligible.
- Can be applied to programs with Fall or Spring start terms.
You may also be eligible for other tuition-free and scholarship programs.
General Tuition (for courses registered for by the end of the add/drop period) for eligible students is covered in full when Freedom & Unity is combined with federal, state and institutional grants.
Other costs, such as specific program tuition, mandatory fees, textbooks, computers, materials, or other fees are not covered and will be the responsibility of the student.
- Complete a FAFSA and the Vermont Grant application through VSAC.
- Apply for Admission at VTSU (if you haven’t already).
- Explore courses and register for classes.
- VSAC will work with VTSU to pay the tuition and administrative fee.
