Vermont State University Nursing Programs Once Again Achieve Exceptional NCLEX Pass Rates

Three individuals in medical scrubs practice an emergency procedure on a pediatric training mannequin in a clinical skills lab. One person performs chest compressions, another operates a ventilation bag, and a third stands near a crash cart preparing additional equipment. The setting includes medical supplies, monitors, and bright overhead lighting, creating a realistic training environment.

Graduates demonstrate excellence with near-perfect scores, strengthening Vermont’s healthcare workforce

Vermont State University (VTSU) proudly announces outstanding results from its semi-annual National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) reporting for graduates of its nursing programs. These achievements reflect the dedication of VTSU’s faculty and clinical instructors and the perseverance of students committed to entering the nursing profession.

The NCLEX is a mandatory exam for nursing graduates to obtain licensure, assessing critical thinking and clinical judgment to ensure safe patient care. Passing the NCLEX-RN (Registered Nurse) or NCLEX-PN (Practical Nurse) is a requirement of beginning a professional nursing career.

VTSU’s latest NCLEX results demonstrate excellence across all programs:

  • Pre-Licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program:
    • 100% pass rate
    • All 20 students passed on their first time sitting for the exam
    • Exam states: 16 VT, 2 NH, 1 CA, 1 NY
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) Program:
    • 90.30% pass rate
    • 134 students sat for the exam and 121 passed on the first attempt
    • Exam states: 127 VT, 4 MA, 3 NH
  • Practical Nursing (PN) Program:
    • 99.37% pass rate
    • 159 students sat for the exam and 158 passed on the first attempt
    • Exam states: 158 VT, 1 NH

“These results are a testament to the extraordinary commitment of our students and the tireless efforts of our faculty and clinical instructors,” said Caitlin Stover, Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences at VTSU. “Preparing nurses for the complexities of today’s healthcare environment demands critical thinking, compassion, and resilience. Our graduates have demonstrated all of these qualities, and their success on the NCLEX reflects the strength of Vermont State University’s nursing education and its impact on patient care across the region.”

Most graduates from VTSU’s nursing programs choose to pursue licensure in Vermont, reinforcing the state’s healthcare workforce and ensuring communities have access to well-prepared nursing professionals.

“Vermont faces an urgent need for skilled nurses, and Vermont State University is proud to be part of the solution. These exceptional NCLEX pass rates show that our nursing programs are producing highly qualified professionals who are ready to serve their communities. It’s a testament to the strength of our programs and the dedication of our faculty and staff that VTSU graduates have achieved consistently outstanding NCLEX pass rates for many years,” shared VTSU President Dave Bergh.

He added, “The vast majority of our graduates stay and work in Vermont, strengthening local healthcare systems and improving lives. This achievement underscores VTSU’s mission to provide education that meets workforce needs and supports the well-being of Vermonters.”
