MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont State University says they are seeing increased enrollment for their trades programs.
The school says enrollment for this academic year is at a record high with over 870 apprentices, including a 20 percent rise in enrollment for plumbing and electrical apprenticeships.
About percent of those students are from Vermont and the school says they’ll make a direct and sustained impact on the state’s workforce.
VTSU held an appreciation event on Tuesday at the Randolph Center campus. Leaders say they hope that bringing awareness to apprenticeships will help more people pursue careers in the trades. “There’s definitely a vast wide career opportunity in both trades regardless of what avenue you want to do,” said VTSU’s Sarah Ballou.
The Department of Labor is hosting events across the state highlighting apprenticeship opportunities for young people, veterans, women, and more.
