RANDOLPH CENTER, Vt. (WCAX) – A group of Vermont State University students has come up with a proposal to modernize one of the Randolph Center campus’s older dormitories.
Cracked door frames and chipped paint. The “Old Dorm” on VTSU’s Randolph Center campus has seen better days. But a group of seniors as part of their capstone projects, recently decided to envision what a second chance for the building would look like.
“The dorms here haven’t been renovated in a number of years, so having up-to-date resources for students is something that’s very appealing and gets students interested in the school,” said Walter Moore, a VTSU senior.
Architectural engineering and renewable energy students teamed up to see the feasibility of transforming the old dorm into energy-efficient, apartment-style housing.
“Buildings like this can be changed for more modern usage that’s needed in the community,” said Adam Melendy, a VTSU senior who helped on the project. “It helps decrease the need for fossil fuels.”
