My children, my parents, and my family inspired me to continue pursuing my education. As a single mother of two, I work and do my best to be a parent to them. It’s challenging, especially when our routines get interrupted. My oldest one is in preschool, off on Wednesdays and weekends, so those days I can’t take daytime naps, most times I do school work at night. My youngest one is one, going on two soon, takes long naps 2-3 hours, so when he sleeps, I sleep. We maintain a routine so everyone gets time with me, time to play, and time to rest. I’m grateful the little one takes naps; it allows me to catch up on rest during the day while the oldest is at school.
I had to figure out waking up earlier or staying up late – staying up’s better because once they fall asleep, they don’t wake up earlier. But waking up earlier, a few times someone’s woke up with me and tried to tell me a story while I do homework.
My experience has impacted so many people I didn’t even realize . I noticed one of my sisters returned to school after my second semester. Last year, my best friend who always tells me I inspires her got into an accelerated RN program.
Motherhood itself is difficult, and if you’re already considering returning to school on top of it, you got fire in you – you must continue while the fire’s flaming. Don’t hesitate.
