After teaching for 35 years, I retired to care for my mother. When she passed away, I realized I was too young to stop working and still had more to give. I began working at my hometown hospital as a patient safety sitter and COVID screener. The hospital supported my growth by sponsoring me to become a Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA), and I was later hired as an Emergency Department (ED) technician.

With a full scholarship from the hospital, I continued on to nursing school, passed my boards in July 2025, and will graduate in May 2026. I turned 64 last week and plan to move forward as an ED nurse. I never imagined this path for myself, but I love learning and caring for others. You’re never too old to pursue what you love.
