Kris Littlewood

I am a Licensed Veterinary Technician who found myself working 2-3 full-time jobs to make ends meet as a single mom. As I got older, that was no longer feasible. I decided to change my focus from caring for animals to caring for humans. This led me to apply to VTSU Castleton to achieve my BSN in nursing. I was very excited to exepted to the program. This journey has been extremely difficult and rewarding at the same time. As my parents would say, “Keep your eye on the prize.” That is exactly what I am doing.

For every hard-won success, I am confident I will complete my degree and licensure exams. The challenges seem endless and come daily. Caring for my elderly parents, son, numerous pets, overall household, and working full-time, it is difficult at best. These challenges make me take each day as it comes. The next most important task is a priority. I have also learned to give myself grace when life tasks need to be put off until school work is completed. This experience has impacted everyone from coworkers to family. All of which are extremely supportive and stress how proud they are.

My advice to others is reach for your dreams. It is never too late or too difficult to achieve. It is never too late to obtain an education to follow a dream. The road can be incredibly difficult at times. The joy of achievement can not be obtained without the struggle. The prize, no matter what that might be for you, is worth it!
