Looking Back, What Moment or Experience at VTSU had the Biggest Impact on You?
The moment that had the biggest impact on me was completing my final clinical rotation and realizing how much I had grown over the past two years. When I started the nursing program at Vermont State University, I was nervous and unsure if I could handle the demands of nursing school. Through clinical experiences, long study nights, and support from my instructors and classmates, I gained the confidence to care for patients safely and compassionately. Being recognized at the end of my final rotation as someone ready to enter the profession was a powerful and emotional milestone.
Who or What Helped You Succeed During Your Time at VTSU?
My family, classmates, professors, and coworkers all played a major role in my success. My family provided constant encouragement and made sacrifices so I could focus on school. My coworkers reminded me daily that I was closer to my goal than I realized. The nursing faculty at VTSU challenged me while also offering guidance and support when I needed it most. My classmates became a second family, and together we helped each other through the most difficult parts of the program.
How did Your VTSU Experience Prepare You for What Comes Next?
VTSU prepared me by giving me both the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to become a safe and competent registered nurse. Through lectures, simulation labs, and clinical rotations, I developed critical thinking, time management, communication, and patient care skills. The program also taught me resilience, adaptability, and how to remain calm under pressure—qualities that are essential in nursing.
What are Your Plans After Graduation?
After graduation, I plan to begin working as a registered nurse and gain experience providing quality patient care. I am excited to apply everything I have learned and continue growing as a nurse. In the future, I hope to further my education and explore specialty areas such as pediatrics, emergency nursing, or critical care.
What Advice Would you Give to Incoming or Current VTSU Students?
Believe in yourself and take things one day at a time. Nursing school is challenging, but every late night, every exam, and every clinical experience is helping you become the nurse you are meant to be. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, lean on your support system, and remember why you started. Stay organized, trust the process, and know that your hard work will be worth it when you walk across the stage.
