My desire to return to school in my 40s was sparked by a dream I had over 20 years ago—to become a doctor. Life’s twists and turns led me down a path that I never would have chosen for myself, but that path gave me a deeper understanding of and appreciation for the human body.
My own health journey through illness connected me with communities of others who were suffering too, and I could not shake a deep desire to help them. When that dream resurfaced, I knew it was time to pursue it.
It has been a difficult journey juggling Autistic children, my own Autism and advocacy work, school, employment, and countless other responsibilities—but everything I do brings me closer to that dream.
My best advice to anyone considering going back to school later in life is simple: it’s never too late to follow your dreams!
