Two weeks after starting nursing school, my life took an unexpected turn as I began my divorce and transitioned into becoming a single mother. At the same time, my mother’s Alzheimer’s disease began to progress rapidly, bringing additional emotional weight and responsibility into my life. Navigating these personal challenges while committing to my education was overwhelming at times and often felt almost impossible. As a student, a parent, and a working, I had to learn how to balance multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
There were days filled with exhaustion and uncertainty, where managing school assignments, caring for my child, supporting my mother, and maintaining work felt like too much to carry. Despite the difficulty, I remained focused on my goal of becoming a nurse and reminding myself why I started this journey.
Throughout this period, the support I received from my school community made a profound difference. The encouragement, understanding, and flexibility offered to me gave me strength during moments of doubt. This path has been challenging and transformative and shaped me into a stronger, and more compassionate person, qualities that I carry with me as I continue my journey in nursing.
