The inspiration behind me pursuing my education is my son. When my son was three months old, my husband was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Our worlds flipped upside down. I knew little about raising a child, and I knew even less about how that type of trauma would impact his developing mind. That is when I began reading books and learning about the neuroscience of the developing brain. I became enamored with the information regarding trauma-informed care and realized I wanted to help more people. Thus, I decided to enroll in college. Last year, I was a commencement speaker for CCV, where I received my A.S. in behavioral science, and I am now in the process of receiving my B.A. in psychological science.
