Tori-Ann Szczepaniak

My name is Tori Szczepaniak, a transfer student from Jamaica. I am a graduating senior in the Interdisciplinary Studies program, which integrates the fields of Special Education, Psychology, and Social Work, where I plan to build a comprehensive foundation for advocacy and service. As an adult learner having had to balance academic rigor with life experience, I am beyond honored to have received this award and the distinction of wearing an Honor Cord for my upcoming graduation ceremony.

I have always had a passion for supporting vulnerable populations. This journey started in Jamaica, where I pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education and worked as a special education teacher for three years. I am very pleased with my new career path and focused disciplines, as I was always seeking a career change to impact local communities. I am excited and eager to find my footing in Vermont as I intend to use psychology to understand behavior, social work to navigate systems, and special education to implement support.

Beyond the classroom, I have served as a long-standing member of the Rotaract club in Jamaica, and have all intentions of finding a club locally where I can continue service above self.

Following graduation, I plan to pursue a Doctoral Degree in Occupational Therapy. There is a great need for service in that field, and I am charged to accept that calling. I am deeply grateful for the support of my family, friends, my committed professors, and my very encouraging husband. Their unwavering assistance throughout this transformative educational journey has been a blessing. Jamaica, I dedicate this one to you! One Love!
