What You’ll Learn

You’ll study student engagement, development of diverse learners, and content-specific methods for leading social studies classes, among other core topics. You’ll learn how to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice, and motivate your students to do the same. You’ll know how to make learning accessible and exciting for all students and you’ll be able to help them better understand their own evolving relationship with the societies and social groups they inhabit. 

By graduation, you will be prepared to earn your initial licensure in Vermont with a Social Studies endorsement, in addition to completing your master’s degree. 

Outside the Classroom, In the Community 

During a full-time internship and two required practicums, you’ll have the chance to put into practice what you’ve learned in your courses. You’ll discover through experience how to implement pedagogy, theory, and classroom management strategies in your own classroom. Our Teacher Education Placement Office can assist you with finding the right field placement. 

This program is accredited by the Results Oriented Program Approval (ROPA), Vermont Agency of Education (AOE), and Vermont Standards Board for Professional Educators (VSBPE). Graduates will be eligible for initial licensure with Social Studies endorsement.
