Approach health and healing through a broader perspective. The Holistic Health degree program at Vermont State University, one of the few of its kind in the country, will ground you in core scientific disciplines and train you to understand a wide variety of holistic health care therapies — including chiropractic, yoga, acupuncture, herbalism, and meditation/mindfulness.
You’ll deepen your understanding of holistic health practices through classes focused on individual practices, research opportunities, and hands-on internships. When you graduate, you will be prepared to continue building your knowledge through post-graduate training in health-related programs.
We understand that the cost and value of your education is important to you. That’s why we’re committed to being one of the most affordable colleges in Vermont and why more than 80% of our students receive aid. We're here to help you fit this program into your unique financial picture. Contact this program's Admissions Counselor any time to discuss what types of financial aid are right for you.

Why Study Holistic Health at Vermont State?
Unique Path: Start preparing for integrative medicine or holistic health careers at the undergraduate level. There are few bachelor’s level programs that let you begin to explore and build your knowledge for a non-traditional approach to health care.
Evidence-Based Approach: Holistic health doesn’t mean abandoning scientific standards of measuring effectiveness. You’ll develop a broad base in chemistry, biology, anatomy, and physiology along with research methods that will give you tools to assess the evidence supporting alternative health care practices.
Tools for Self-Care: We help you apply what you learn to your self-care, so you can put healthy strategies into practice for handling the stresses of your college experience and set the foundations for caring for yourself in your future holistic health career. This is one of the best ways to learn integrative, cross-cultural, and evidence-based skills across various holistic health practices and therapies.
Faculty Expertise: The director and primary faculty member for Vermont State’s Bachelor of Science in Holistic Health is a practicing holistic health doctor. Your instructors also include a clinically-trained herbalist and certified health and wellness coach and a nationally-certified Ayurvedic Practitioner.
What You’ll Learn
You’ll employ cultural, biochemical, and global frameworks to investigate the history, principles, and scientific evidence for the safety and effectiveness of diverse modalities to foster well-being and prevent and treat illnesses.
The curriculum is structured with a core of courses in sciences and holistic health and a selection of electives that allow you to focus on practices that interest you most. You will have opportunities for a practical internship or to undertake an independent research project. You’ll gain scientific knowledge and practical skills to prepare for further training programs and holistic health careers.
