What You’ll Learn

In the M.A. in Foundations in Education, you will complete an interdisciplinary sequence in educational studies and a personalized concentration. You will develop skills in applied inquiry through self-study, action research, phenomenology, critical analysis, and narrative reflection.

In your self-designed concentration, you may study professional topics related to your current work such as instructional methods, curriculum development, content enrichment, cultural affirmation, program assessment, or leadership strategies. Teachers may design the concentration to add endorsements.

The concentration is completed through regular courses and a series of Graduate Seminars. The Graduate Seminar is a unique, student-driven approach to professional learning. It employs a tutorial process in which a small gathering of program participants, studying distinct topics, join with a professor and peers to examine readings, projects, findings, questions, and ideas for improving practice and the profession. Participants complete 18 credits of seminar work over multiple semesters to build a comprehensive applied project in stages.

You can complete the 18 credits of Graduate Seminar work over multiple semesters to build a comprehensive applied project in stages. The Graduate Seminar is available throughout the year (fall, spring, and summer) to support continuous study that integrates with your professional work.

All courses can be competed online. Up to 12 credits of related degree-approved graduate-level coursework may be considered for transfer to the M.A.

Outside the Classroom, In the Community 

All courses in the program include applied professional projects that you can complete in the everyday setting of your professional position, with the intension to improve your practice, lead your peers, and improve the operations of your school or institution.
