With In-Person Plus programs, program-required courses are taught through a combination of in-person and remote delivery. Remote learning may require meeting at a specific time or may not have a specific class time; all weekly interactions and assignments for remote courses are completed through a learning site.

Why Study Studio Arts at Vermont State

A Diverse Artist Community: Vermont State University’s fine arts program is a diverse and inclusive community of artists that challenges you to make complex artistic decisions and develop strong creative artistic skills.

Exhibition Opportunities: Show your work in solo or group exhibitions in our Student Gallery and local Vermont galleries.

What You’ll Learn

In the Studio Arts Concentration, you’ll take a wide range of studio art classes in drawing, sculpture, painting, photography, printmaking and even metalsmithing. You will have the choice of focusing on one medium or mixing and matching them in any way you can think of.

Outside the Classroom, In the Community

Several local galleries show work by our students and faculty, including the Bank Gallery in Rutland, The Satellite Gallery in Lyndon, and the Christine Price Gallery in Castleton. Galleries at each campus provide opportunities for group and solo exhibitions of student work, including annual Senior Exhibitions.

Larger museums and galleries within easy reach of our campuses include the Hood Museum, Williams College Museum, Clark Museum, Mass MOCA, Middlebury College Museum, and Fleming Museum.

Global Exposure

The proximity of Vermont State University campuses to major art centers, such as Boston, Montreal, and New York City makes it easy to gain firsthand knowledge of original, historic, and contemporary works of art. You can also study abroad in world centers of art such as Italy, Ireland, Holland, England, Greece, Nepal, Tibet, India, and China.
