Why Study Music & Self-Promotion at Vermont State
Three Areas of Study: Gain the skills to develop your sound and your business through coursework and practical experiences in music, music industry, and business.
MBI Recording Studio: Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, it’s the perfect space to capture your musical ideas.
Combine Concentrations: MBI students often combine concentrations in their degree program to develop skills for multiple sides of this field, adding Audio Production or Music Management to their Music & Self-Promotion Concentration.
What You’ll Learn
From marketing and artist management to music theory and basic songwriting, your courses will cover the multi-faceted skills you’ll need to build your musical skills and promote yourself. You can choose to learn the ins and outs of how a recording company runs in the two-course Record Label Practicum — which leads to the production and marketing of a 3-song EP on the MBI student label Eneekay — or focus on expanding your musical performance capabilities through a combination of performance-based courses.
Autumn successfully pitched herself as the artist for the student-run Eneekay record label, gaining a three-song EP and class support to create the program’s first storyline music video as part of the marketing approach. Heading for LA soon, she says, “I’d love to do anything within the song-writing community, I just super enjoy the process. But to perform my own songs would be the icing on the cake!”
