CASTLETON, Vt. (WCAX) – College students in Castleton are helping to preserve the past.

The VTSU Castleton ice hockey team spent Thursday afternoon helping restore a historical cemetery near the Federated Church in town.

The players lifted old monuments back into place and cleaned up headstones.

Senior members of the team say giving back is something they hope to pass on. “We go to school here, we get in touch with the community over the years of being at Castleton and being a Spartan. So, anyway we can give back to any kind of community service we do. Throughout my four years and throughout the guys who are going to be here after me, it’s super important to us, and to see the support at our games — it means a lot,” said Anthony Persi, a Castleton senior.
