Emergency Response at Vermont State
We encourage the entire Vermont State community to become familiar with emergency protocols and the resources available to mitigate and respond to emergencies.
Emergency Notification System (Rave)
The Vermont State Colleges (VSC) utilizes Rave for emergency communications. Students, Staff, and Faculty are automatically signed up for this service annually, however, everyone is strongly encouraged to sign into this service to confirm or update contact information on a regular basis.
If it is confirmed that there is an emergency or dangerous situation that poses an immediate threat to the health or safety of some or all members of the university community, a university-wide or campus-specific warning will be issued. Public Safety will collaborate with appropriate offices to determine the content of the message and will use some or all the systems described below to communicate information to the community or the appropriate segment of the community if the threat is limited to a particular building or segment of the population. Considering the safety of the community, the University will promptly determine the content of the notification and initiate the notification system unless issuing a notification will, in the judgment of the Emergency Management Team, compromise the efforts to assist an individual or to contain, respond to, or otherwise mitigate the emergency.
- Automatic Opt-In: To ensure you receive critical information when it matters most, we have automatically enrolled your VSC email and personal cell phone number in Rave. This means that you will be promptly alerted in case of emergencies that require immediate action.
- Exclusively for Emergencies: Rest assured that this system will only be utilized for genuine emergencies, such as severe weather alerts, campus lockdowns, or other significant incidents that require your immediate attention and response. Several examples of events that do not classify as an emergency are campus conferences and events, academic information, planned maintenance, routine campus notifications, and construction.
- Opt-Out Option: We understand that personal preferences vary, and if you wish to opt out of this service, you can do so easily by following the provided instructions. However, we highly recommend staying opted in to ensure your safety and stay informed during emergencies.
