College Steps is a non-profit that provides students with learning and social challenges on college campuses across the nation. The College Steps model is designed around an Individualized College Plan (ICP) that complements or continues from a student’s IEP — serving as a roadmap that identifies key areas of need, tracks progress, and supports success throughout the college experience.
The model is built on four pillars
- Academic Enrichment – Customized support inside (up to one course per semester) and outside the classroom, such as note‐taking, study skills, time management, test strategies, self-advocacy support, and coordination with campus disability/support services
- Social Involvement – A trained peer-mentor network helps students navigate college social life, build friendships, join activities/clubs, and develop social cognition skills
- Independent Living – Development of life skills, including budgeting, nutrition, self-care, transportation, and self-advocacy, through College Steps Core Curriculum
- Pre-Employment Training – From foundational job-readiness (resumes, etiquette, interviews) to career research and on-campus job shadowing, these experiences prepare students for meaningful employment after graduation.
Together, setting goals in these pillars creates a comprehensive support system that not only addresses academic challenges but also fosters social engagement, self-sufficiency, and career readiness — enabling students to build their future.
