The Office of International Student Support Services works closely with departments throughout the university to ensure easy access to all of the benefits and services Vermont State offers. Whether you hold a J-1 or F-1 visa, our Student Support Services team will help you successfully comply with immigration rules and regulations, and offers a range of services, including:
- Guidance on F-1 student regulations
- Assistance with maintaining lawful status
- Support for changing your major
- Help with maintaining full-time enrollment and exceptions
- Information regarding access to on-campus work
- Help with lawfully accessing off-campus work and internships through Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
- Assistance with applying for Post Completion Optional Practical Training (OPT)
- Guidance on applying for a Social Security Number and Driver’s License
- Information on U.S. tax requirements
- Assistance with travel signatures for your I-20
- Help with requesting an enrollment verification letter
- Support for extending your I-20
Vermont State’s Office of International Student Services also provides information and support beyond compliance-related services, including:
- Course selection guidance to help students satisfy degree and F-1 compliance requirements, and to find opportunities to enroll in courses that will increase cultural awareness
- Assistance securing housing between semesters, during the summer, and during school breaks
- Access to special meals for religious and cultural observances
- Opportunities to join clubs, share your culture, and engage with your community
- Referrals to student support services for multilingual and multicultural services
The Office of International Student Support Services also offers workshops for all members of our Vermont State community to increase cultural awareness, knowledge, and empathy.
