Costs and Registration for Senior Citizens

At Vermont State, we encourage life-long learning. We provide flexible opportunities around the state and online to help you increase your knowledge, whether you’re seeking college credit or not.

Non-Credit Course Auditing

With the approval of the Registrar and the instructor of the course, adults aged 65 or older are eligible to audit one class per term at no cost. If you audit a course, you will not receive a formal grade but will be able to otherwise fully participate in class.

After the add deadline passes, the university will not convert an audited course to credit or a credit course to audit.

Credit-Bearing Courses

Courses taken for credit are available with a 50% discount on tuition only. This means that any associated lab or course fees are due in full.

Tuition and Fees

Courses taken for credit are charged at 50% of the relevant per-credit rate, along with any applicable fees. To view standard per-credit tuition numbers, visit our Tuition and Fees page and click the ‘plus’ button to expand the relevant section.

Course fees are listed in the SelfService course catalog.

Registering for Courses

To register for courses as a non-degree seeking student, you’ll use the following registration form. The form will require you to know the course number associated with the class you’d like to take. You’ll find course offerings, including the course/section number, via our SelfService course catalog.

You’re able to apply filters that display results for courses offered on specific days of the week, at a specific campus, or online. For online courses, sort by “VTSU Online” and “VTSU Remote”. Online courses condense classes from our online degree programs into fewer weeks. Remote courses run the full standard term, and we offer them virtually.
