Build your technical know-how and grow your leadership skills to prepare for a career in a growing range of industries in Vermont State’s Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology.

Mechanical engineers are the bridge between innovation and implementation, blending technical expertise with strategic leadership to transform ideas into tangible products. As both doers and managers, mechanical engineers collaborate seamlessly with researchers, designers, and skilled craftspeople to create the high-tech solutions that drive our world forward.

Our program provides a strong foundation in mechanical engineering during your first two years. During year three and four, students may focus their studies through a concentration in Manufacturing or Renewable Energy. Students who do not choose one of these two concentrations will continue to develop their knowledge in the broader field. 

Students who complete an A.E. in Mechanical Engineering Technology may transfer into VTSU’s B.S. in Mechanical Engineering program to earn this degree in an additional two years.

With a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • an ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline; 
  • an ability to design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadly defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline; 
  • an ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in broadly defined technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature;

Our Electrical Engineering Technology degree prepares you to find work in any number of challenging positions. The degree will give you a foundation in the principles of electrical and electronic design and development, combined with hands-on laboratory work. As engineering technicians, you are qualified to work in such varied activities as maintenance, manufacturing, production, and installation of complex electrical, electronic, or electromechanical products. You may also assist in research and development. You can be a key player in incorporating sustainable technologies that will transform the coming decades. Testing, quality control, management, and customer service are among the additional job opportunities available. You will be able to find work in the power industry, biotech, electronic manufacturing, robotics, aerospace, and many other industries.

As a student who pursues a two-year associate degree in electrical engineering technology, you will have the option to continue your education to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Engineering Technology, or Business Administration.

  • Preparation for More Study: The Psychological Science B.A. program is a major step toward pursuing graduate study in psychology, counseling, social work, or clinical mental health at Vermont State or elsewhere. Additionally, qualified students can be referred by full-time faculty to participate in the Bridge Program to Vermont State master’s degree programs in counseling or clinical mental health. Bridge Program students can take up to nine credits in our master’s degree programs in Counseling or Clinical Mental health. You could apply these credits toward both the upper-level breadth courses in your psychology degree as well as the Vermont State graduate degrees in counseling or clinical mental health. The Psychological Science B.A. is also a versatile degree that serves as a credential for admission to graduate study in other fields like education, health, business, the arts, law, etc.
